NIGERIA / MINING - Nigeria is set to launch the Segilola Gold Project in Osun state in 2021, according to the recent statement of the Minister of Mines and Steel Development, Olamilekan Adegbite.

According to the Minister, the project is expected to create about direct 400 direct jobs and 1000 indirect jobs along the gold value chain.

The project is expected to open up an industry centered around gold production, from equipment leasing and repairs, logistic and transport. Gold requires a specialized means of transport, security, insurance, aggregators among others.

Nigeria has largely untapped deposits of 44 minerals including gold, iron ore, coal, tin and zinc, in more than 500 locations, but mining makes up just 0.3% of the economy.
